The Greatness in You

God Behind the Scenes

God’s name is not mentioned in the book of Esther in the Bible, but His divine providence is easy to follow. God was behind the scenes maneuvering circumstances that led to Israel’s victory.

When I hear the story about a racehorse named Secretariat, I see something remarkably similar… God clearly present behind the scenes. We don’t serve a God that sees normal. We serve a great God, and His greatness abides in us, as it is written, “He who is in you, is greater than he who is in the world.”

The Making of Greatness

When Secretariat was born, he stood on his feet at 45 minutes old. The trainer said he had never seen a foal stand up that fast. Ideally, a foal should be up and nursing within two hours of birth. Even at his arrival, Secretariat was special.

At the age of two, Secretariat had won seven of his nine races and was named Horse of the Year, only the second two-year-old thoroughbred to ever capture that honor. At the age of three, he won the Triple Crown and was again named Horse of the Year.

The Triple Crown is a championship title awarded to the horse that wins three races in a single season. Only 13 horses in the history of the Triple Crown has ever achieved this victory, and Secretariat was one of them, with the record of the fastest horse to ever win it. Not only did Secretariat clock the best cumulative time for his Triple Crown victory, but he also holds the record time for each of those three races individually.

The Race Before Him

The three races of the Triple Crown include the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes. The Belmont Stakes would be his hardest race because of its length, and there was some concern whether he had the stamina to run that distance. In addition to that, Secretariat had an abscess and had not been eating, and in training, his times had slowed down considerably.

On the morning of the Belmont Stakes, his groomer, Eddie Sweat came to the stall and saw that Secretariat had eaten all the grain in one bucket, and tore into the second bucket Eddie brought. On his way to the starting gate, he kept stomping the ground and rearing up like he was pumped to run.

Ordinarily, he would start the race dead last out of the gate then blow past all the other horses to come in first. He must have felt a sense of accomplishment when he ran, because that day the jockey did not have to use the whip, he just rode, and Secretariat ran that race like a tremendous machine. His trainer, Lucien Lauren said, “In all my years of training, I’ve never seen a horse that loves to run like this one does.” God put racing in his heart, and it showed. What's in your heart?

Impossible to Catch

Secretariat dictated his own come from behind racing strategy, and it worked. In the Belmont Stakes though, Secretariat did not start dead last, that day he stuck with the leaders and was never in the rear. On the back stretch he began to pull way out in front and every sprint forward drove him further and further into the lead.

In the final stretch Secretariat was so far out in the lead there was no mistaking who the winner would be. They would never catch him. When he crossed the finish line he was still in full stride and could’ve gone much further.

Since Secretariat won the Triple Crown in 1973, his winning time in the Belmont Stakes has never been approached. This was the race they said he didn’t have the stamina to win, and yet he still holds the record to this day.

God's Greatness at Work in Us

Sports journalist, Jerry Izenberg said, “You can’t anticipate greatness. I suppose you can’t really define it. It’s something that God, occasionally, sticks inside someone. And because it comes from God, the gift can’t be ignored, nor can it be defeated, and great athletes become greater even if they’re not human.”

If God can pull this off in a horse, just imagine the great things He can do in you and me. Come on, let's believe for greater things, by believing in God who does great things. Let us run with passion and endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus who is the author and the finisher of our race, to receive the crown of glory prepared for us.

Here's the link to that amazing race. Take a look!

My Little Buttercup...

One of my choice things to do when I go on Facebook is watch my favorite preachers... and music videos of course, because I love music.

Sometimes, I'm astounded by how on point the word of God is. Hebrews 4:12 says it is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. A week ago I decided to watch one of my favorites, Karen Wheaton, and she gave me an encouragement that I was really needing that day. There's no way she could've known other than the Holy Spirit led her to say those words. And yet she has thousands of followers but it felt like she was speaking only to me.

This is the way Holy Spirit rolls. Ms Karen used a yellow flower growing in the back pasture of her property to illustrate how our small contributions can make a big difference. She said, "Little buttercup, you're doing more good than you know." God didn't call all of us to be an international Billy Graham, but we can make a big difference, right where we are, in our small corner of the world.

Be blessed.

Well Done Good and Faithful Servant

Ravi Zacharias (who died on 5/19/2020) once said that someone asked him what his first words would be when he stands before the Lord Jesus. He responded that he would stand absolutely silent because he would be terrified at what Jesus' first words would be to him.

This reminded me of a vision that the Lord showed me about the Judgment Seat of Christ.

After the rapture, all of the heirs of salvation (us believers) were standing before the Lord Jesus as He sat on His throne and He had a conversation with each one of us. In the vision I was third in line and in front of me were two ladies that attended my church.

The first sister was having a conversation with the Lord but I could not hear what they were saying. Only the two of them could hear each other. There were two angels standing on both sides of her. As I waited my turn, I nervously repeated over and over to myself, "Please let me hear Him say well done. Please let me hear Him say well done."

They spoke for a long, long time as we all waited in line for our turn. Suddenly, she yelled out and began rejoicing in the Lord as the two angels carried her out of the way.

The next sister came up to Jesus for her turn. They also spoke for a long time but no one could hear their conversation except them. As I stood behind her, I continued my pleading, "Just let me hear Him say well done."

Finally, the sister in front of me yelled out and began rejoicing in the Lord, and her two angels carried her out of the way, and it was my turn.

I nervously stepped forward, still pleading in my mind. He and I locked eyes and said nothing. He nodded His head up and down because He knew my thoughts. Such a relief washed over me that I just began to rejoice and weep uncontrollably. Two angels came and carried me away.

Jesus taught in Matthew 25:14-29 that the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. And likewise he who had received two gained two more also. But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord’s money. After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them. So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’ His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ He also who had received two talents came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.’ His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’ But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. (New King James Version)

The apostle Paul said in 1 Timothy 1:12 "How thankful I am to Christ Jesus our Lord for choosing me as one of His messengers, and giving me the strength and endurance to be faithful to Him." (Living Bible)

Let me hear You say, "Well done My good and faithful servant."

God's on OUR Side

I was driving down Dallas North Tollway one day when the Lord showed me a vision.

I was in a tug of war and on my side it was just me and the Lord Jesus. On the other side of the rope were billions of people pulling with all their might. Their faces were viciously contorted and they were leaned backwards with their feet dug into the ground... but losing miserably. Jesus and I were standing erect with smiles on our faces and simply holding the rope... and winning.

The world can be coming against you but when you know who is on your side, you can stand in confidence. God is for the believer... His people. This does not mean that we will never go through anything in life. Life will get hard at times, and we won't always have a smile on our face. But God's power and authority is with us, and we are winners and overcomers.

Paul's prayer for the Ephesian church:
Ephesians 1:19-20 (NLT) I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe Him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.

Romans 8:31 (NLT) If God is for us, who can ever be against us?

Strength and Endurance

One of the benefits of physical strength and endurance training is that it increases the body's ability to do activities without getting tired. It involves challenging muscles against resistance to increase strength and power.

This is also a good analogy for spiritual strength and endurance training. The more we develop, and the stronger we get, the more effective we are at accomplishing  God's purposes for our lives.

🏋 Let's get strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.🏋

Here's the link to my podcast teaching on this topic. Let's go! đź’Ş

Oh Taste and See

In the Spring of 1999 at the age of 36, I was born again and experienced the great awakening.

I once saw a YouTube video of a little boy tasting bacon for the very first time. Sitting in his highchair, he reared his little head back and closed his eyes and let out an “Oooowwww, bacon!” It was nothing like he had experienced from the many jars of baby food he had consumed.

That illustrates my experience with the Lord Jesus, growing up around Christians and not enjoying my own personal relationship with Him was like that baby food. But when I began to walk personally with the Lord, I was like that little boy enjoying bacon for the first time… “Oooowwww, Jesus!”

Psalm 34:8 NKJV
Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
